Introduction
RisingStars seeks to invest in unique technologies with exceptional commercial prospects. It also seeks to back clever and ambitious management teams who have the ability to turn those unique technologies into highly successful and commercial enterprises which are likely to sell or licence their products or services into international and global markets.
Whereas all unique and innovative technologies will be considered, the Funds have developed core interests in the software, healthcare and environmental sectors. The Funds are less attracted to capital intensive projects which are likely to take more than five years to investment realisation. The Funds are also unlikely to invest in a competitor to an existing portfolio investment.
The Funds will invest at first round in the range £50,000 to £500,000. We are particularly attracted to proof of concept opportunities where the first round commitment might be up to £350,000 drawn down in tranches against milestones. The Funds have capacity to follow their money up to £1 million and beyond, but will often seek to co-invest with other investors at second and subsequent round financings.
The Funds can invest at other stages in the life cycle of the development of early stage technology companies, be it seed or start-up, or pre-IPO.
The Funds have a primary but not exclusive focus on technology companies based in the English Northern regions.

EV recognises that to exploit innovative technology and grow a business is extremely challenging, and in addition to providing medium term risk finance in the form of venture capital, also provides access to expert management who can assist in a variety of ways, typically strategic, business or technical development, recruitment and marketing. We provide funds and resources to encourage fledgling businesses to become established and successful businesses.
